Kroger has introduced a smart cart at its Madeira, Ohio location. The cart, powered by Caper, has a built-in scale and camera, allowing customers to scan and bag their items as they shop, then pay from the cart and exit quickly through the self-checkout area.
A company spokesperson told Winsight Grocery Business that the company began testing the cart last fall and that plans for a wider rollout, while not planned at this time, “will be guided by insights from our customers and associates.”
